Happy Decision

Some people and one elephant are presumably happy about a recent decision made by the New York Court of Appeals.

The high court agreed to hear a case concerning Happy, an elephant that The Nonhuman Rights Project claims is imprisoned within The Bronx Zoo. This animal-rights group describes Happy as a “cognitively complex nonhuman animal” who should be transferred to a sanctuary as soon as possible.

Happy’s been “mostly alone” since her elephant companion died in 2002. That’s a long time for a social mammal to exist without a simpatico buddy.
