Counterintuitive?

When there’s not much else to do except binge on TV sit-coms, you’d think that the birth rate would soar.  You’d be wrong.

It turns out that the U. S. birth rate has dropped to a new low during the pandemic.  Such a steep decline has not been seen “since the Baby Boom ended in 1964.”  Worse yet, there's been a similar downward trend for decades. 

We're now below what is needed to replace an existing generation, which could have far-reaching effects on the social security system.  While more and more Boomers are retiring each year, there would be fewer and fewer workers to help see them through.
