Sounds of Science

If you want to get your point across on Mars, you might have to speak louder than usual.

That’s because there’s a lot less atmosphere to work with.  Sound travels through air, and when there's less of it, there’s less noise. 

This could be a blessing when you’re trying to sleep, but don’t count on an alarm clock to jar you awake. That piercing buzz might transform into a kind of hush.
