Jumbled not bumbled

When it comes to marriage proposals, Aly Jiwani is no bumbling fool.  In fact, he cleverly orchestrated a proposal that delighted his now wife-to-be.

Because then-girlfriend Paul Acuna was especially fond of Jumble puzzles, Jiwani tracked down the Chicago Tribune’s syndicating agency.  He then pitched a creative idea for a tailor-made Jumble to David Hoyt.

Although Hoyt has received many personal requests, there was something about Jiwani’s that made the cut.  Hoyt explained:  It’s a great story, and a part of what makes it so great is Aly’s efforts.

The team proceeded to design a Jumble that reflected many special features of the Jiwani-Acuna relationship.  The cartoon showed their love of sailing, with Aly asking Paula to be his “first mate for life.”  Paula then thought that Aly’s proposal “had a nice ring to it.”
